Obituary
Nancy Catherine Oxley 81 of Platteville, Wisconsin, died peacefully at home with John by her side on Monday, July 29, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where food and refreshments will be served. Nancy's remains will be buried with her family at the Windsor Cemetery in Illinois at a later date. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com. Nancy was born in Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Clinton and Catherine (Kearney) Wall. Nancy graduated from Windsor High School in 1961. She was united in marriage to John Oxley on June 6, 1965 in EWindsor, Illinois. Nancy received her BS and MS in Education from Eastern Illinois University; then taught typing, shorthand and was a guidance counselor in Illinois and Kentucky. Her hobbies included sewing, swimming, fishing with family in Chetek WI, and bargain hunting. Nancy was not one to complain and took life's tasks in stride, making lemonade out of lemons. After the death of her mother, Catherine, Nancy became active in a local cancer survivor support group “Make Today Count”.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 59 years, John; daughter Laura, a veterinarian in Madison, with her husband Aaron Patterson; and Nancy's eldest sister Mary Ann Lowry. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Rita Goodman and Patricia Purcell.
