Margaret was born October 19, 1932, to William and Elizabeth (Winkers) Haugh. She grew up, attended grade school, high school, and two years at the Sauk County Normal Teachers College in Reedsburg, WI. She taught for several years at the Twin Pine Country School, located a few miles west of Reedsburg. On February 13, 1954, she married George Johansen and the couple was happily married for 66 years.
Margaret enjoyed teaching, but raising her nine children came first. After the children were old enough, she worked at Turner Motors as a bookkeeper. Later, she went back into education as a substitute teacher at Winskill Elementary School. She enjoyed five hundred and bridge as well as playing cribbage and solitaire with her family. She gave back to the Lancaster community by being a member of the Catholic Daughters, Hospital Auxiliary and volunteering many years as the Thrift Store treasurer. Other loves included music, gardening, fishing, animals and pets, baking, crocheting, camping at Lake Joy Campground, traveling the United States, and playing the “Penny Slots”.
Margaret is survived by her husband George of Lancaster; three daughters, Joan McCann of Eldridge, IA; Lisa (Todd) Sanger of Lancaster, WI; Jean Johansen of Stoughton, WI; six sons, Michael (Chris) of Lancaster, WI; Thomas (Meg) of Wausau, WI; Mark of Red Wing, MN; David (Ann) of Woodbury, MN; Bill (Margo) of Memphis, TN; and Jim (Nichole Walleen) of Onalaska, WI; 20+ grandchildren; 10+ great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Meyer of Dubuque, IA.
