Obituary

Laura Lee Rosemeyer, 80, of Platteville, WI, passed away peacefully from cancer while at home with her family by her side on Monday, October 9, 2023.

Laurie was born on February 7, 1943, in Platteville, WI, to Bernard and Katherine (Bayley) Rosemeyer. She graduated Platteville High School in 1961 and after attending Edgewood College for two years, she transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Mathematics in 1965. Laurie worked in Chicago until moving to St. Louis in 1974, where she raised her 2 beloved daughters and enjoyed a successful real estate career. In 2008, she met her love, Gary Olson of Lake Saint Louis, MO. After spending a few years splitting their time between St. Louis and Florida, Laurie and Gary became full-time residents of Englewood, Florida.

Laurie volunteered tirelessly, utilizing her savvy financial mind to the benefit of many people and organizations. She was always helping those around her with tax preparation, home improvement projects, travel planning, new technology releases, and making sure they were enjoying life most efficiently and to its fullest. When anyone needed anything, her answer was always a resounding YES. She and Gary were happiest when they were doing things for others, whether it was building garage shelves or boating friends around the Florida Intercoastal Waterway. As an avid sports fan, Laurie faithfully rooted for the Wisconsin Badgers and the St. Louis Cardinals while enjoying every team. Her favorite role became that of a much adored grandmother to her three grandsons. She was always up for an adventure and loved surprising them with creative antics. Laurie will be most remembered for her generosity and welcoming hospitality, her problem-solving and resilience, her amazing cooking, and her love for her family. She will be most missed for, well, everything.
Laurie is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (Eric) Anderson of Milwaukee, WI, and Stephanie (Greg) Goodemote of Platteville, WI; three grandsons Zach Anderson, Aidan Goodemote, and Kyan Goodemote; Gary Olson and his daughter Kim (Randy) Aubuchon of Lake Saint Louis, MO; sisters Jo Ann (Al) Romanov and Mary Rosemeyer; brother Jim (Lorri) Rosemeyer; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard, and mother, Katherine.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19th, from 5-7 pm, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Friday, October 20th, St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father John Del Priore will officiate. A private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Augustine's University Parish Building Fund, Platteville at www.pioneercatholic.org/help-make-a-difference

My dearest friend and flute player in Platteville High School. She was a treasure in every way and my childhood was made so great because she was there. We use to talk about life in Heaven and sadly, she beat me there. I treasure the time we spent together in our teen=age years and earlier. Laurie, it sounds like you had a blessed life with your husband, and I am so thankful you were part of mine. See you in the sky, my sweet friend. Karen Wells Laszewski

Laurie was so special to me. When I moved to Platteville as a new sophomore, my introduction was made easy by Laurie, who made sure I met everyone she knew as friends. I’ll treasure our teen years which included hours on the phone talking about what seemed important at the time. Although distance precluded our spending much time together after high school, we have kept in touch often. I’ve been blessed by experiencing her positivity, beautiful smile, and most of all her caring friendship. I’ll always cherish my love for you, Laurie. Rest in peace, my dear friend!

Laurie's passing was a shock...I had last seen her briefly when I worked in the old Commerce Building at UWMadison for the faculty...she was her usual beautiful self and I now treasure those moments....she was the golden girl at Platteville High School in the class of 1961 but also in a class by herself...just a classic example of what a young lady should be. We were in band together in the days of the late Dr. Alvin Curtis. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her...God Bless her family..what a sadness to all of us Platteville natives who really admired her... Respectfully, Carolyn Schuldt Class of 1960
