Obituary

Karen Krahenbuhl, 82, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at her home.  Karen was born on October 22, 1942, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Alverna (Rosemeyer) Kopp.  She was united in marriage to Ben Krahenbuhl on August 6, 1966, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.

Karen graduated from Platteville High School, class of 1960 and went on to attend Madison Business College graduating in 1961.  Karen began her career in the independent insurance business in 1961, working alongside her father. She went on to become a licensed agent working with her brother, Richard and husband, Ben until 1990.  Following her career in insurance, she became the office manager at St. Mary's School, Platteville, where she worked for the next 14 years.  

Karen was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she volunteered in several capacities.  Karen enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, playing mahjong and dominos, and spending time with family and friends.  She especially cherished time with her granddaughter, Kelsey.

Karen is survived by her husband, Ben; daughter, Kathy (Tim) Heidt of Waukesha, WI; granddaughter, Kelsey Heidt; brother Richard (Patty) Kopp; sister-in-law Margaret Ruppert; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Alverna Kopp.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at Noon, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville, at a later date.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 – 11:30 AM at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com

I was a teacher at St. Mary's while Karen was there. I always enjoyed chatting with her about school and life. She will be missed by many.

My condolences to the family. I always enjoyed visiting with Karen when I was in the area over the years. Karen always presented a warm and friendly demeanor whenever I was with her and will be remembered as a friendly ang gracious person.
