Obituary
June O. Johnson, 89, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Southwest Health Center, Platteville surrounded by her family, after a long battle with dementia. The oldest daughter of Elton and Inga (Helgeson) Edge, born June 23, 1935, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin.
June graduated from Fennimore High School, class of 1953. She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Johnson on July 20, 1959, at the Fennimore Methodist Church. June was a farmer's daughter, a farmer's wife, and farmer's mother. She was one of the founding volunteers of the Platteville Thrift Shop, which she continued to work at for over 25 years.
She and Dick enjoyed traveling, especially to the Rocky Mountains. She was a very active member of the Whig Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a past member of Grant County Extension Homemakers, and Grant County Farm Bureau. June was a volunteer for the local blood mobiles and also was a donor of many units of blood over the years.
June is survived by her husband of 65 plus years, Dick; son, Allen; daughter, Jolene (Jim) Rech; brother, Max (Mary) Edge; sister, Dana Gempler, many nieces and nephews, her fur grandbabies, Bear and Brody and her extended Whig Church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Vonda (Ray) Kincannon, Barbara Lomas, brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Shirley Schade, brother-in-law, Bob Gempler, Richard Lomas, two nephews, Bryon (Sallee) Kincannon and Scott Lomas.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Burial will be at Whig Cemetery, rural Platteville. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.
