Obituary

John A. “Jack” Popple, 88, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Funeral services will be at Noon, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Rev. Brenda Crossfield will officiate. Private family burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Chapel Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or American Heart Association. John was born on November 27, 1934, in Platteville, the son of John and Leola (Goke) Popple. He graduated from Platteville High School, Class of 1952. He then served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged February 1, 1961. “Jack” married Joyce Runde on August 6, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. He later married Janice (Goke) Kase on November 27, 1999, at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. Jack worked at the Platteville Telephone Company from 1964 - 1991 where he started out as a lineman and retired as central office supervisor. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Platteville, sang in the church choir and served on the grounds committee. Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading.

Jack is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Michael Popple, Ann (Dale) Golden, Sue Popple, Kevin (Lorie) Kase and Timothy (Julie) Kase; grandchildren, Alex and Brittany Popple, Kasey Flogel, Arianna and Hannah Golden, Chad (Anjali), Ryan (Shannon) and Brent (Megan) Kase; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Rodger Popple; brother-in-law, Mike Riley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judith Riley.
