Obituary
John (Jack) P. Flogel, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on November 21,2022, at the home of his daughter in Cocoa, Florida. Jack was born on October 29, 1929, at home in Dickeyville to John and Eleanora (Conter) Flogel, Sr. He lived in rural Platteville most of his life. Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army and inducted into service on March 4, 1952,
and took basic training at Camp Gordan in Georgia. He served in the Korean War Conflict in the Army 17th Regiment, 7th Division, Communications Signal Corp. He drove jeep and truck for linemen repair at the front lines of battle. He was later promoted to Corporal before being honorably discharged on December 3, 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post #42. Jack went on the Honor Flight in 2012.
On February 17, 1954, he married Julitta Udelhoven from Dickeyville. He farmed in the Platteville area all his life. Jack enjoyed playing cards, dancing, going to auctions, fishing, deer hunting, fixing things in his shop and was an Archer Oil dealer. Jack was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights of Columbus.
Jack is survived by his five children: Gerald (Judy) Flogel, Cindy (Dale) Wills, Chris (Darla) Flogel, Suzy (Harold) Schrack and Lily (John) Durst. He is further survived by 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. Jack is also survived by his sister, Ruth Roling, and sister-in-laws Delores Flogel, Lillie (Ed) Spitzbarth and Wilma Dolan.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Julitta, on July 4, 2001; his parents and siblings and their spouses: Olive (Louis) Wiederholt, Francis (Grace) Flogel, Rosemary (Sylvester) Gassman, Celeste (Carl) Wissing, Charlotte (Jim) Miller, Hank Flogel, Roy Flogel, Robert (Lorraine) Flogel and Lou (Leonard) Vosberg. He was also predeceased by brother-in-laws Norm Roling and Rick Owen and a grandson, August Schrack.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Father John Blewett will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Chapel military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, and will continue on Saturday, from 9:30 AM until the time of mass.
