Joan M. Droessler, formerly of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at BeeHive Homes of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
Joan was born on August 8, 1948, in Platteville, WI, the daughter of William E. Leighty and Pauline McDermott. Joan spent much of her childhood in Platteville, being raised by her grandmother, Mary Gladys McDermott Speth. She was united in marriage to Alan P. Droessler on August 27, 1966. Alan and Joan raised four children together while farming in Cuba City, WI. They divorced in 1992 and Joan moved to Platteville, WI, where she met Larry Swart, who would be her partner for the next twenty years.
Joan worked at Flexsteel Industries in Dubuque, IA for many years while raising her children and farming with her husband. After her children were grown, she worked as a real estate broker. Joan was a hard worker and dedicated mother. She was also a fun loving, free spirit who loved animals, gardening and the outdoors. She enjoyed sewing and made many graduation and prom dresses for her daughters. Joan was a loving, supportive, and generous person who would do anything for her family and friends.
Joan is survived by her four children: Todd P. Droessler of Cuba City, WI; Tammy (Jeff) Cordray of Verona, WI; Tari (Greg) Hansen of Oconomowoc, WI; and Tina (Ronald) Saporito of Indio, CA. She has six grandchildren: Christopher T. Saporito, Nicholas A. Saporito, Katelyn R. Saporito, Tyler M. Hansen, Reece J. Cordray, and Ava M. Hansen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William E. Leighty and Pauline McDermott, her brother William P. Leighty, and her life partner, Larry Swart.
The family would like to thank the care teams at Agrace Hospice Care, the staff and owners of BeeHive Homes of Mount Horeb, and staff at Epione Pavilion in Cuba City, WI.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with a memorial service at 1:00 PM at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, WI.
