Obituary

Jeanne Joan (Myers) Engelke, 92, formerly of Belmont, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Park Place Assisted Living, in Platteville, Wisconsin. Jeanne was born the daughter of Clarice and May (Weittenhiller) Myers, on September 8, 1932, in Livingston Wisconsin.

She was united in marriage to Merlyn C. “Gov” Engelke on August 10, 1950, at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont. Gov preceded her in death on April 16, 2012.

She was an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild. She cherished watching her children's and grandchildren's events, as well as living on the family farm south of Belmont. Jeanne was a strong and determined woman who could be found pursuing her numerous interests of baking, sewing, gardening, lawn mowing, and browsing yard sales for “treasures”.  She also cultivated an ever-growing passion of the Brewers with her beloved husband, Gov. Jeanne was proud to call herself a farm wife, mother, Belmont school bus driver for eighteen years, Hometowne Bakery employee, Belmont convenience store worker, meal site volunteer, and member of various card clubs.

Remembering Jeanne's remarkable life are her nine children, Deb (Arlie) Sveen, of Ettrick, WI; Brad (Sonja) Engelke, of Belmont, WI; Brian (Mary Kay) Engelke of Mineral Point, WI; Ken Engelke, of New Glarus, WI; Tim (Maryellen) Engelke, of Belmont, WI; Dan (Tammie) Engelke, of Galena, IL; Marla (Paul) Simon, of Rewey, WI; Julie (Michael) Tashner, of Platteville, WI; Amy (Mark) Siegert, of Potosi, WI; thirty-five grandchildren; and thirty (soon to be thirty-one) great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, eleven brothers and sisters and their spouses, an infant son, David, her husband, and daughter-in-law, Kellie Engelke (Ken).

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont.  Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

The family would like to extend thanks to the Park Place and St. Croix hospice staffs for their care and compassion given to Jeanne. Jeanne was the last living member of both her and Gov's immediate families, marking the end of an outstanding generation.

Our condolences to the Engelke family and friends. Jeanne and Gov were both good people, who raised a quality large family. Jeanne and Ruth Klein had a valued relationship that only mothers of large families can appreciate. We believe Jeanne was blessed and fortunate to love and to be loved by many.
