James H. “Jim” Kingeter, 82, of Platteville died on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his home in rural Grant County. An informal Celebration of Jim's Life will be from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. A meal will be served throughout the celebration. At 2:00 p.m. there will be a time of sharing and military rites accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274 at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Jim was very specific in his wishes for this celebration, wanting family and friends to truly celebrate his life. Memorials may be made to the Jim Kingeter Memorial Fund. Jim was born on August 25, 1935 in Platteville, Wisconsin, son of John Milton and Lennis (Karrmann) Kingeter. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Kay Cushman on August 6, 1960 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Platteville. Jim served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War from 1954 – 1958. He worked from 1960 – 1990 at the Platteville Post Office retiring as Postal Supervisor. Jim also farmed for many years in Harrison Township. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid Hillmen, Badger and Packer fan. Jim's greatest enjoyment came from being with people- family, friends, and casual acquaintances. His humor and good spirit were contagious.
Jim is survived by his wife Kay; two children, Pete (Jolene) Kingeter and Jennifer Hammond; four grandchildren, Nick (Molly) Kingeter, Matt (Kelli) Kingeter and Jackson and Edie Hammond; two great-grandsons, Henry and Calvin Kingeter; brothers and sisters-in-law Joanne (Paul) Reese, Joyce (Gary) Battles, Judy Martens, Tom (Sherry) Cushman, Terry (Cheryl) Cushman, Todd (Dena) Cushman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Kingeter; sister Virginia Dowling; brothers-in-law Joe Martens and Bill Dowling; and beloved nieces Cynthia Kingeter and Jill Clayton.
The family is very grateful to Grant County Hospice for providing Jim with excellent care, physically and emotionally. Thanks Kim, Brenda, Mareeta, Michelle and Drs. Carr and Klann.
