Obituary
James “Jim/Jimmy” Jon Withrow, age 59, passed away on Saturday, November 25th after battling NonHodgkins Lymphoma.
Jim was born on November 19th, 1964 in Platteville, WI; son of Jack and Shirley (Steffen) Withrow. He grew up working on the family farm with his dad, Jack, until he moved into the construction world for many years with the Bevan family, and then with his brother-in-law, Scott Austin. He also worked at Farm & Fleet in Platteville for a few years when the kids were little.
Anyone that knew Jim would say he was a very social, active friend, always willing and wanting to help. He loved the outdoors and would be out working on his ever-growing wood pile any chance he could. His grandsons called him “Grandpa Woodstove” and there could not be a more fitting name.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan, snowmobiler, motorcyclist, fisherman, hunter, and in his younger days, fast pitch softball pitcher.
Jim is survived by his mother, Shirley Withrow; four children: Katie (Dan) Kirshbaum, Jake (Amanda Fitzgerald) Withrow, Emilie (Nate Bray) Withrow, Luke (Rebecca Knapp) Withrow; former wife Janice (Splinter) Withrow; five grandchildren: Lydia, Kyler, Sara, Weston, and Hazel; four sisters: Jona Austin, Jill (Greg) Hubbard, Jami (Josh) Noble, Joni (Chad) Mueller; brother-in-law Scott Austin, many nieces and nephews and many close friends, including Amanda James. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Jon “Jack” Withrow, mother-in-law, Barbara Splinter, grandmother Lou Ella Felderman, good friend, Jim Nicholas, and many others.
