Irene Timmerman

Irene M. Timmerman, 92, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Father John Blewett and Deacon Bill Bussan will concelebrate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Irene was born on March 11, 1929 in Grant County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mathias “Matt” and Anna (Van DeWiel) Bertjens. She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Timmerman on June 22, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sinsinawa. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2003. Irene worked at the Dubuque Packing Company until she and Joe were married, they then farmed together until they moved into town in the early 80s. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Irene loved to play cards! She enjoyed many games of cards with her friends at Pioneer Ridge Apartments. She also enjoyed crocheting and baking, she was well known for making her scotch-a-roos and giving them out to people. Most of all, Irene loved the time she got to spend with her grandchildren.

Irene is survived by four children, Donna (Paul) Digman, Diana (Mark) McPhail, Terry (Donna) Timmerman, and Kevin (Peggy) Timmerman; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Katie (Irvin) Abing, Margaret Bertjens, and Justin Timmerman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; son, Joseph Jr.; sisters, Romona (Bernard) Hoppenjan, Berniece Bertjens, Mary (Carl) Runde, Evelyn (Ervin) Northaus; and brothers, Walter (Mercedes), Albertus, Francis (Marie), Donald, and an infant sibling.
