Howard Weigel

Howard Charles Weigel, 96, of Platteville, died on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Edenbrook, Platteville. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Howard C. Howard was born on November 30, 1924 in Grant County, Wisconsin, son of Henry and Stella (Riechers) Weigel. He was married to Avis McLimans on June 24, 1947 in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Avis preceded him in death on September 7, 2008. Howard graduated from Platteville High School in 1941 and worked locally and for Oscar Mayer, Madison, until 1946. After his marriage, he pursued a farming career on his parents farm. After his parents retired he purchased the farm and continued farming until his retirement. He later was employed by Williams Truck and Tractor and Rural Excavating. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville, where he served on the church council at the time the current church and fellowship hall were built. He was a member of the Platteville Elks. Howard and Avis enjoyed going to country music concerts in Branson Missouri, and traveled extensively throughout the United States. He was an avid Badgers, Brewers and Packers fan, where he had a voting share of the Green Bay Packers. Howard always enjoyed playing cards, especially at the VFW and going to the Platteville Senior Center. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His humor was an essential part of his personality.

Howard is survived by his children; Doug (Ann) Weigel, David (Abby) Weigel, Kris Gallagher, Sharon Hill and Kent (Mindy) Weigel; 13 grandchildren: Shannon (Damon) Smithburg, Eric (Ann) Weigel, Matthew (Bryany) Weigel, Nathan (Emily) Weigel, Travis (Obeth) Weigel, Brady and Darby( Izaiah Clinton) Weigel, Jake (Stacy) Gallagher, Adam Gallagher, Dustin (Jade) Thomas, Jade (Willie Stewart) Thomas, Logan (Shannon) Thomas and Trevor Hill; 12 great-grandchildren: Robert, Jacob, and Kaelyn Smithburg, Joseph, Andrew, Claire, Macy, Clark, Zoey, and Avi Weigel, Dayton and Rielyn Stewart. Howard was also survived by sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Weigel, and special niece, Jill Goffinet, who cared for Dad these past years and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis, his parents, Henry and Stella Weigel and three brothers, Elton, Guerdon and Dale.
