Obituary

Gertrude Viola “Gertie” Fiedler, 92, of Platteville, Wisconsin, formerly of Lancaster, Wisconsin, passed away on April 20, 2025, at Edenbrook Platteville.  Gertrude was born on August 9, 1932, in Darlington, WI, the daughter of Frank and Emma ( Schuart ) Northouse.  She was united in marriage to Joseph “Bill” Fiedler on April 5, 1951, at St. Clements Catholic Church, Lancaster, WI.  

Gertrude was employed at the Lancaster School District as a bus driver for 42 years.  She enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles.  She especially enjoyed time with her family.  Gertrude was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville.  

Gertrude is survived by her children, Katherine (James) Dunn; Julia (Bill) Nixon; Bonnie (Terry) Vaassen; Dan (Chris) Fiedler, daughter-in-law Linda Fiedler; fourteen grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Fiedler, James (Sheila) Dunn, Lori (Jason) Loch, Sara (Brad) Weigel, Gina (Ryan) Cochran, Steven (Sarah) Dunn, Emily (Gordon) Bradley, Matt (Krista) Nixon, Tara (Nick) Raney, Kristin (Brent) Hoyer, Samantha (Jared) Cullen, Derek Fiedler, Dayna (Gavin) Dailey, Nathan Fiedler, and 27 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill, son, Thomas, granddaughter, Katie Rae Vaassen; and three brothers and sister-in-law's Norman (Marion), Paul (Donna), and Jack (Imelda) Northouse; sisters and brother-in-law's, Mary (Larry) Cook, Ann (Loren) Wood and Theresa (Ambrose) Harris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 24,2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville.   Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory.  Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Edenbrook Platteville and St Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

May Aunt Gertie rest in peace. She was always a delight to visit with. Her and Uncle Bill were so much fun at family reunions. I’m sure there is quite a Northouse reunion in heaven with all the siblings and her parents greeting her to paradise!

My deepest condolences to the entire Fielder family. I am so sorry for your loss. I have many wonderful memories of visiting Aunt Gertie and Uncle Bill every time we were in Lancaster visiting my Grandpa Norm and Grandma Marion. Thinking of you all and sending prayers for peace, comfort, and strength.
