Obituary

Duane T. “Greta” Knox, 71, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at his home of natural causes. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Deacon Bill Bussan will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville, at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the funeral home and will continue from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday. Duane, or “Greta”, as many have gotten to know him as was born on February 19, 1953 in Grant County, Wisconsin, son of Clifford and Norma (Voigts) Knox. Greta was united in marriage to Michelle “Shelly” Hoffman on November 15, 1989 in Lancaster, Wisconsin. He graduated from Platteville High School, Class of 1971. He worked for Lawinger Bros. Construction Company and later for the City of Platteville, Street Department, retiring after 19 years of service. Greta enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing going to flea markets and antiquing.

Duane is survived by his wife, Shelly; two daughters, Tara Brown and Dana (Wesley) Granville; four grandchildren, Adrien, Kamryn and Greyson Brown and Keira Granville; one brother, Daryl (Diane) Knox, sister-in-law, Judy (Ron) Iverson and brother-in-law, Larry (Terrie) Hoffman and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Duane was one of the kindest man I got to know while working in Platteville...His smile was contagious and made him appear so innocent...He would brighten up any room he walked into..Rest in peace Duane until we meet again..

So very sorry to have read of Duane’s passing. We’re sure you have many beautiful memories to give you comfort forever. This Bible verse recorded in John 5:28 has been of comfort to our family when experiencing a loss. It reads “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” May Jehovah the God of all comfort give strength and his love to each of you.
