Donovan G. Kamps, 92, of Belmont, WI died Friday, May 16, 2025. Funeral services will be at Noon on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Platteville, WI. Rev. Stephen Kruschel will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to Belmont Remarkable Guardian Angels. Donovan was born on January 5, 1933, in Platteville, Wisconsin, son of Emil and Ella (Speth) Kamps. Donovan was united in marriage to Barbara L. Tiedemann on August 3, 1963, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Platteville.
Donovan graduated from Belmont High School, Class of 1950. After high school, he served in the United States Army. After serving his country, he attended UW-Platteville and graduated with a double major in mathematics and physics. He worked for Ladish Comp from 1960 – 1963 and from 1970 -1998 he worked for UW-Platteville as a computer programmer. While working at UW-Platteville, Donovan farmed for many years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Platteville, where he was active in various positions in the church. He served as Belmont township clerk from 1999 -2013. Donovan enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, and playing sequence with the family.
Donovan is survived by his wife, Barbara; four children, Doug (Kelly) Kamps, Kim (Brian) Schacker, Randy Kamps, and Larry (Janice) Kamps of Platteville, WI; four grandchildren, Karlee, Makenzie, Rayna and Wesley; two great-grandchildren, Kayden and Kameron; sisters, Maggie Dorn, Janis Selger and Beverly Hilgert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Jackson Kamps, brothers, Harold, LaVerne, Keith, William and Thomas and sisters, Karen and Norma.
