Obituary

Dawn M Dunbar, age 66, of Platteville, WI passed away on 3/3/25 at Agrace Inpatient Hospice from lung cancer.  She was born Nov 9th, 1958 the daughter of Ron and Mary June Rewey.  She graduated from Platteville High School and earned her nursing degree from Southwest Technical College.  She worked as a nurse for over 40 years.

Dawn enjoyed many years of camping, her favorite spot was in Potosi, along the Mississippi River.  She enjoyed camping with her parents and good friends, Barb and Mike Canon.  They spent many hours sitting by “The River”. She enjoyed traveling - her favorite destinations were Hawaii and Branson.  She was recently able to share the excitement of Branson and Silver Dollar City with her grown children and grandchildren.  Dawn enjoyed gathering with friends and family and was always volunteering to bring an assortment of foods and dips - she never came to a gathering empty handed! 

Dawn is preceded in death by her father, Ron Rewey.  She is survived by her mother, Mary June Rewey, brother Brian (Jackie) Rewey, ex-husband Randy Dunbar and children Jamie (Zach) Rogers and Jenny (Peter) Pleva.  She has 3 grandchildren - Carlyn and Amaris Rogers and Kailey Pleva.

Throughout her recent health issues, Dawn had several friends and family who offered their support and loving care - in particular Jackie, Brian, Pauleen and Wanita.  The family appreciates the wonderful care and connection she had with her hospice nurse (Olivia) and for Agrace inpatient hospice at the end of her life.

Funeral services will be at Noon on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, WI.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Pastor Tammy Clausen will officiate.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville, WI.  Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com.

With a heavy heart, I remember my beloved niece, Dawn. From the moment she was born, she was the sweetest, most beautiful baby, the first grandchild, my first niece, and the first cousin in the Schmieder family. From the beginning, she was special, bringing so much joy and love to our lives. Dawn was always there for her family, both immediate and extended. She was the one we could count on, especially when it came to anything medical—always providing clear, simple explanations with her reassuring presence. More than anything, Dawn was a bright light in our family. Her warm smile and rich, joyful laugh could fill any room. It is heartbreaking to imagine life without her, but I will forever carry her love, her laughter, and the beautiful memories we shared. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. It’s hard to find the right words to express how much Dawn meant to me. She was more than just my cousin—she played a big role in my childhood. During the summers when my parents had to work, she took care of me, and I always looked forward to spending time with her. She was an amazing, funny, and warm person, full of life and joy. As a kid, I loved when she babysat me—she had a way of making even ordinary days feel special. Whether it was taking me to the pool or just making me laugh, those memories will always stay with me. I feel so blessed that, years later, Dawn called me when I was a teenager to babysit her two girls a few times. It’s amazing how life comes full circle. I will forever miss Dawn’s brightness and her unforgettable laugh. Many may not know that Dawn was the one who encouraged me to step out of my small-town environment and chase new experiences. When I dreamed of moving to Florida, she was my biggest cheerleader, pushing me to go for it. During those first few months away, she was the one I would write letters to and send cards, always looking forward to her reply. Though life took us in different directions as we all grew and started our own families, I will always cherish the bond we shared. I’m grateful I had the chance to see her again when my parents and I visited Wisconsin. Though our time together was too short, it meant the world to me. I will miss her deeply, but I’ll hold onto the love, laughter, and encouragement she gave me. Rest in peace, Dawn. You will always be in my heart. Laurie

to dawns family so sorry to hear about dawn was a good classmate and old friend I knew the family a lil knew her former dad alot and her mom and bro brian he lived down the street from me when I lived in pville u have our sympathy and condolonces may dawn rest in peace god bless u all.ted klaas and family

Spending my childhood in Michigan, I had opportunity to know Dawn on holidays, summer vacations, and family campouts. She was always kind to me, and I have nothing but warm memories when I think of times spent playing with Jamie and Jenny at their house. I can't remember a time when she didn't greet me with a smile, or let me borrow her car when I would visit Wisconsin. I am saddened to hear of her passing, and am sending my love to the family and friends nearest to her.
