Alice was born and raised in New London, WI. She was the youngest of 4 children born to the Rev. Harold P. and Adalyn (Homstad) Rekstad. Alice graduated from Winona State University with a BS in Business. After graduation, she taught high school Business Education in Sheboygan, WI, until one summer when she went to visit her sister, Pat, in Boston and never left! In Boston, Alice worked in the business office of the Massachusetts General Hospital for more than 18 years, until she ‘retired' and moved back to Platteville! In Platteville, Alice worked in the Chancellor's Office at UWP, Lenscrafters and, ultimately, as administrative assistant to Cindy Tang, where she enjoyed working with many of Platteville's non-profit organizations. Alice served as a dedicated board member and treasurer for both the Platteville Main Street Program and Inspiring Community for many years.
Alice was always independent and she enjoyed her privacy but, anyone who really knew her would say she was a warm, loving, outgoing and loyal friend. Alice loved to travel. She visited Egypt and made multiple trips across Europe – she especially enjoyed Italy, Greece and Norway. Alice was an avid reader and she also enjoyed cross stitch and crochet. In recent years, Alice served as a faithful volunteer in the community and she was a treasured friend to many.
Alice is survived by her sister, Joan Rekstad and dear friends, Barbara Gates and Cindy Tang. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Stuessey; and brother, Paul.
