Albert L. White, age 92, of Potosi, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was born to James and Elvina (Kress) White on November 7, 1932, in Grant County. He was a graduate of Potosi High School and completed a correspondence course for electrical work. Albert was united in marriage to Shirley M. Shaw on June 13, 1953, in Potosi. Shirley preceded him in death on December 21, 2012.
At 18 years old, Albert started working for the Potosi Brewery in the bottling house from 1951 until 1953, and was recognized as the last living worker during their Centennial. He worked for John Deere Tractor Works for 31 years, retiring in 1986. He loved his time working at Deere and was known to be quite the prankster. Albert was well read and would often be seen reading his encyclopedias. He was also known as a jack of all trades, passing down his knowledge of fixing cars, tractors, and machinery to his sons and grandsons. Albert had quite the sense of humor. He enjoyed writing his own jokes and sharing them with his family and friends. He also enjoyed telling stories about his life and everyone loved to listen. Albert had many hobbies. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, passing his passion onto his family. He also joined in horseshoe leagues and tractor pulls, and was inducted in the Dairyland Antique Club Tractor Pullers Hall of Fame. He loved all sports, especially baseball, which he played during his younger years. You would often find him watching the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers. Albert liked to play cards, especially poker with his brothers and family.
Albert is survived by his six children, Albert (Connie) White, Gloria (Jack) Speth, Jerry (Pam) White, Barbara (Steve) Stead, Rod (Judy) White and Jill Courtney; and 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie (John) Vogelsberg, Evie (Paul) Klein and Sandy (Rod) Blum; brothers, Garland (Rose) White, Ralph White, and Joe (Roseanne) White; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandson Johnathon in 1994, sister, Eileen Klein and brother, James “Sonny” White.
Funeral services are at Noon, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, Wisconsin. The visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Pastor Richard Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cornelia.The family would like to thank the staff at Finley Hospital in Dubuque for the wonderful care given to Albert. In lieu of flowers, an Albert L.
