Dennis D. Banfield, 77, of Platteville died on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday. Dennis was born on August 14, 1939 in Cuba City, Wisconsin, son of Thomas “Sylvester” and Pearl (Randecker) Banfield. He married JoAnn Carpenter on September 17, 1960.
Dennis farmed in Georgetown, Grant County and worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for many years. On April 1, 1993 be became the owner/ operator of the Char Bar on Second Street, Platteville. When he was a young man he enjoyed dancing. He was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed tractor pulling, shooting pool and playing at the casino. As his family said, “Dad lived life to the fullest.”
He is survived by his children, Tina A. Banfield of Platteville; Dennis A. (Paula) Banfield of Phoenix, AZ; Steve “Guido” Banfield of Platteville; Holly A. (Ted) Ogden of Platteville; Mark J. (Shelly) Banfield of Darlington, WI; Tracy L. (Craig Klein) Banfield of Platteville; Ryan D. Banfield of Cuba City; seventeen grandchildren, Rachel, Tyler, Jackie, Tori, Brandon, Dylan, Haily, Dalton, Brandon, Nicole, Bristol, Denver, Preston, Gage, Jeremy, Hunter and Chase; three great-grandchildren, Kyla, Kennedy Jo, and Landon; mother, Pearl Banfield of Cuba City; two brothers, Thomas (Peg) Banfield of Platteville; James “Skip” (Mert) Banfield of Cuba City; seven sisters, Mary Kate Kleiner of Dubuque; Sue (Steve) Allen of Monroe, WI; Irene Banfield of Cuba City; Dory Olan of Pensacola, FL; Sherri (Jim) Walgreen of Dubuque; Margaret Banfield of Dickeyville, WI; Patsy Demma of Chicago, IL; special friend Mary Place of Belmont, WI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, former wife, JoAnn Banfield, sister, Deanna Kline, daughter-in-law, Crystal Banfield and granddaughter, Breana.
