Dorothy J. Reed, 91, of Platteville, died on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Southwest Health Center, Platteville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson. Father Richard Leffler will officiate. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Dorothy was born on March 15, 1925 in Potosi, Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Alvina (Siepker) Langkamp. She was united in marriage to Thomas Reed on January 8, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. Dorothy worked as a nurse's assistant at the Platteville Hospital and Nursing Home, as well as, Gray's Nursing Home. After that she worked in maintenance at University of Wisconsin- Platteville. She also cared for an uncle of hers for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's CCW, the Ministry of Prayer, and the VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, walking, reading, crocheting, and knitting. She loved to spend time with family; her greatest achievement was raising nine children on her own.
Dorothy is survived by nine children, Michael (Sandi) Reed of Rosco, IL; Catherine (Michael) Pond of Madison, WI; Janet Pariza of St. Charles, IL; Alan (Margaret) Reed of Grand Forks, ND; Thomas (Deborah) Reed, Jr. of Palm Bay, FL; Terry (Barbara) Reed of Edgerton, WI; Sharon (Fred) Peska of Orangeville, IL; Kevin (Susan) Reed of Platteville; and Dennis (Barbara) Reed of Madison, WI; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Hill of Madison; and Bernadine Ballweg of Waunakee, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, LeRoy, Ambrose, Lawrence, and Francis Langkamp; two half-brothers, Bernard and Raymond Langkamp; half-sister, Catherine Koeller; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann, Theresa, Myrtle, and Bernice Langkamp.
